Catch it
Everyone's life is a 3D no-fiction story on an ever running film: maybe that's what makes photography such an unique art: I believe in the power and ability of catching into a image a life-moment that, with a turmoil of thoughts, feelings and meanings on it, is but still. The World Press Photo exhibits every year the best photographs taken by journalist... their job makes it such that they often are not in the merriest place on earth, but rather where the global news is... and global news is rarely good news.
Therefore, when a couple of months ago I went to see the 2007 exposition (for the year 2006) I wasn't expecting a cheering time but rather fascinating pictures with not the easiest feeling attached... I wasn't disappointed.
Once there I played the game: choose your favorite 3 photos and tell me why... simple rules made the game tough... the photo are many and so are the categories... Eventually you get out with one feeling: that life keeps rolling on your film but what makes your story are the instants.

Yes?that?s true Augusto: the moments make our life?God I wish I could find the way to keep them longer?I was on this exposition too, and I WAS disappointed a little (you remember?:) Why do you take a photo Augusto? I take them because they allow me to go back in thought to the past, to the beautiful moments in my life and beautiful people that I met on my way?that?s way I like photos showing beauty and in this way causing positive emotions. How often do you watch some of your photos which remind you about sad or hard times in your life?
But I agree with one thing: it was a world PRESS photo so its aim was not to enchanted us but give us the information (how the world looks like). But the question is: whether watching suffering on photos helps those who experience it? Don?t the journalists take away people?s dignity showing their fear, pain, disability without asking for their agreement?
Why we always try to look the best when someone takes our photo?.?
ps. kisses from Poland! keep writing coz I check your blog from time to time:)

Marta!! My dear... yeah, the job of press photographer gets its critisism, but eventually eahc of us must do what they are good at, and it's important to report on fact thought imagines, as those are moften more impactful than words... this way people can learn better and maybe do small action for a better world, wo knows! As per sad memories coming from photos... I think what should make you feel alive and love this life is the combination of sadness and happiness, tears and smiles... Even in the worst moments there is something good to get out of and those are the moments that makes you stronger!! We miss you Marta, come back to visit us. Buzi
